Mortgages

Technically, mortgages are not a debt. It is actually a security for a debt or loan, which is usually a property or a house. To simplify a mortgage even further, you transfer the ownership (or part ownership) to the lender. Failure to keep up with repayments, or clear any debts secured against the land or property could see the the lenders repossession their part or full ownership of the property or estate. Interest is also accrued whilst paying back the funds.

The interest rates do vary with a number of factors taken into consideration. These include, but are not limited to things like what the borrowers credit history is like, the term of the mortgage and also how much deposit is paid to secure any monies advanced for a property purchase to go through. There are many calculators freely available on the Internet, which can give you a good, but not 100 percent accurate assessment of just how much you would pay back in monthly, yearly or throughout the fixed term of the mortgage. They tend not to take into consideration any rises or falls in the rate of interest that you pay.

The word mortgage comes from the French language. It literally translates to 'Dead Pledge', in essence, the pledge will die once the obligation is fulfilled. The actual cost of mortgaging is governed by something called APR, which is an acronym for 'Annual Percentage Rate', which is the interest that is accrued in any given year. It is highly unlikely in today's modern world that a house or home will be bought without the aid of a mortgage. People just do not have the type of money in savings to buy a property outright. Even if they do, parting with such large sums of money is hard to do, and low interests can be negotiated in these circumstances.
